Our History
The Association of Sales Professionals (ASP) was established on June 15, 1985, by a visionary group of sales pioneers—Linda Carter, Michael Ramirez, and Karen Tanaka.
They recognized a growing need for a dedicated platform where sales professionals could come together to share knowledge, innovate, and elevate the standards of the industry.
In its early years, ASP began as a small network of sales enthusiasts operating out of Chicago, Illinois. The founders organized monthly workshops to provide insights into emerging sales strategies and trends. By 1990, ASP’s membership had grown to over 500 professionals, and the organization expanded its reach with the launch of regional chapters across the United States.
In 1995, ASP introduced its first major initiative, the Sales Leadership Excellence Program (SLEP), aimed at nurturing the next generation of sales leaders. This marked a turning point, as ASP became known not just for networking but also for top-tier professional development opportunities.
By 2005, ASP had gone global, with members from Europe, Asia, and beyond joining its ranks. The introduction of the Annual Sales Summit, a flagship event featuring keynote speakers and workshops, further solidified ASP’s reputation as a global leader in the sales community.
Today, ASP is a thriving community of over 20,000 members worldwide, with a commitment to empowering sales professionals through education, innovation, and collaboration. What began as a dream in 1985 has become a global movement, shaping the future of sales for generations to come.
